Best Generative Engine Optimization (GEO) Tools and Agencies in 2026
The best GEO tool depends on whether you need to measure AI visibility or improve it. Trackers such as Otterly.ai, Peec AI and Semrush's AI Visibility Toolkit show which prompts mention you, from $29 a month. Services do the work that changes those answers: Revv Growth runs content-led GEO from $3,000 a month, and LightSpeedBolt, which we run, combines tracking with content, Reddit and citation building from $149 a month.

How we compared them
Generative engine optimization (GEO) is new enough that "GEO tool" can mean three different products: a tracker that asks AI engines your buyers' prompts and records who gets mentioned, a content platform that writes pages structured for AI answers, and a service that does the off-site work (mentions, reviews, Reddit threads, comparison articles) that AI engines lean on.
We compared eight options across those three types using each vendor's own pricing and documentation, checked in October 2026 and linked beside every price. For each we recorded which AI engines it covers, how many prompts it tracks at the entry price, and whether it changes anything or only measures.
We did not run a controlled test of which provider improves AI mentions most, because AI answers vary by prompt wording, location and day, and no honest test fits in a buyer guide. The options are listed by starting price, cheapest first; that order is not a ranking.
What we looked at
Measure or improve
A tracker tells you where you are missing. It does not change what ChatGPT says. Decide which problem you are paying to solve.
Engine coverage
Buyers ask ChatGPT, Google AI Overviews and AI Mode, Perplexity and Gemini. Some plans cover three engines and charge for the rest.
Prompts per dollar
Entry plans track 10 to 50 prompts. A useful benchmark needs at least the 20 to 50 questions your buyers really ask.
Off-site work
AI answers lean on third-party sources. Services that earn mentions on Reddit, reviews, articles and directories move the needle in ways on-site edits cannot.
Honest promises
No one controls what a model says. We discount any provider that guarantees rankings inside ChatGPT.

Pricing: $99 once (llms.txt and schema setup); Orbit $149/mo with GEO tracking and the work (see plans)
LightSpeedBolt benchmarks 20 to 50 of your buyers' prompts across ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini and Google AI Overviews, fixes on-site signals (llms.txt, Organization and Product schema, crawler access for AI search agents such as OAI-SearchBot, Claude-SearchBot and PerplexityBot), then earns mentions on the sources AI engines cite: articles on our owned domains, Reddit threads, GitHub and directories. A monthly AI-visibility report shows which prompts mention you.
Best for: Founders who want AI-search visibility improved for them, not just measured.
Strengths
Does the off-site citation work trackers leave to you
Bundled with backlinks, blog posts and Reddit
Priced for founders, from $149 a month
Limitations
Tracking is a monthly report, not a daily analytics product like Peec AI
Fewer engines and prompts than enterprise platforms
No AI-visibility API or agency multi-brand dashboards
Revv Growth is an agency that publishes its GEO pricing. Its Starter plan is $3,000 a month with 10 SEO and GEO-optimized blog articles, and Growth is $8,000 a month with 40. The same page estimates that most GEO services cost $3,000 to $25,000 a month.
Best for: Funded teams that want a managed, content-led GEO program.
Strengths
Transparent published retainers
Managed content production at volume
Combines classic SEO with GEO
Limitations
Starts at $3,000 a month

Pricing: Free trial; Enterprise pricing on request (source)
Profound tracks brand visibility across up to 9 answer engines, including ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, Claude, Copilot and Google AI Overviews, and offers AI marketer agents, agent analytics, API access, SSO and data exports. Brands start with a free trial or a custom Enterprise plan.
Best for: Large brands and enterprises with dedicated content and SEO teams.
Tracking tools vs. done-for-you GEO: which do you need?
If you have a content team and someone who owns SEO, a tracker is often enough: it shows which buyer prompts mention competitors instead of you, and your team closes the gaps. If you are a founder without that team, a tracker mostly produces a list of problems. In that case, pay for the work.
What changes AI answers is largely the same work that helps classic search, plus more weight on third-party sources:
Be retrievable. Allow AI crawlers in robots.txt and make sure Google and Bing index you. Google says pages need no special markup or files to appear in AI Overviews; they need to be indexed and eligible for a snippet.
Be describable. State what you are, who it is for and what it costs in plain sentences, tables and FAQs that a model can lift.
Be cited by others. AI engines lean on comparison articles, reviews, Reddit threads, GitHub and directories. Those mentions are the hardest part, and the part trackers cannot do for you.
The original GEO research (Aggarwal et al., KDD 2024) found that adding citations, quotations and statistics to content could raise visibility in generative engine responses by up to 40% in its benchmark. See our explainer on what GEO is.
What GEO costs in 2026
Trackers: $29 to $499 a month. Otterly.ai from $29, Surfer's AI Search Analytics from $82 billed yearly, Peec AI from $95 and Semrush's toolkit at $99, rising with prompts and engines.
Content platforms with tracking: $49 to $199 a month. Babylovegrowth bundles articles, exchange links and prompt tracking.
Done-for-you for founders: $149 to $399 a month. LightSpeedBolt's Orbit and Light Speed plans, after an optional $99 launch kit.
Agencies: $3,000 a month and up. Revv Growth publishes $3,000 and $8,000 retainers and estimates most GEO services at $3,000 to $25,000 a month.
Enterprise platforms: custom. Profound quotes on request.
How to evaluate a GEO provider
Ask every provider the same five questions:
Which prompts? You should agree on 20 to 50 real buyer questions ("best invoicing tool for freelancers", "X alternatives"), not vanity prompts that include your brand name.
Which engines, how often? ChatGPT, AI Overviews and AI Mode, Perplexity and Gemini cover most buyers. Weekly or monthly checks are enough to see trends.
Do you show the sources? The cited URLs tell you which sites to earn mentions on.
What do you change? On-site fixes, content, off-site mentions, or nothing?
What do you promise? Anyone guaranteeing a ChatGPT ranking is selling something no one controls.
Red flags in GEO sales pitches
"Guaranteed #1 in ChatGPT." AI answers vary by wording, location, model version and day. Nobody can guarantee them.
Special "AI schema" or secret markup. Google states there are no additional requirements or special optimizations needed to appear in AI Overviews or AI Mode. Standard structured data still helps search features.
llms.txt as a cure-all.llms.txt is a useful, cheap proposal for AI tools that read it, but adoption is early. It complements, not replaces, indexable content and third-party mentions.
Mass-produced "AI-optimized" pages. Google's spam policies name using generative AI to create many pages without adding value as scaled content abuse.
Where LightSpeedBolt fits
LightSpeedBolt is the option for founders who want the GEO work done, on a founder budget, together with the channels that feed AI answers: articles on our owned sites, Reddit, a GitHub repo and directories. You get a monthly report of which prompts mention you.
If you have a team that will act on data every week, a dedicated tracker such as Peec AI or Otterly.ai gives you deeper, daily analytics, and it can run alongside a done-for-you service. If you are an enterprise brand that needs SSO, APIs and coverage of 9 engines, Profound is built for that.
Frequently asked questions
What is the best GEO tool for a startup?
If you only need to measure, Otterly.ai at $29 a month is the cheapest daily tracker in this comparison. If you need the visibility improved and have no SEO team, a done-for-you service such as LightSpeedBolt, from $149 a month, does the on-site fixes and earns third-party mentions for you.
Can any tool or agency guarantee ChatGPT will recommend my product?
No. AI answers change with prompt wording, location and model updates, and no provider controls them. What a provider can do is make your product easy to retrieve and describe, earn mentions on sources AI engines cite, and measure the change honestly.
Is GEO different from SEO?
They overlap heavily. Both need indexable, clearly structured pages and authority from other sites. GEO puts more weight on being cited and described accurately inside AI answers, which leans on third-party sources such as reviews, Reddit threads and comparison articles.
Do I need an llms.txt file for GEO?
It helps AI tools that read it and takes an hour to write, so it is worth adding. It is not required for Google's AI Overviews, and it will not make up for missing third-party mentions.
How long does GEO take to show results?
Answers that use live web search, such as ChatGPT search, Perplexity and AI Overviews, can reflect new sources once they are crawled and indexed, often within weeks. What a model knows without searching changes only when a new model version is trained, which can take months.
